Colonel C R Wigan MC TD DL
Commanded 5th -13th The Queen's Royal Regiment from February 1929 to February 1933.
Charles Richard Wigan was born on 27th December 1890 and was educated at Eton College and University College, Oxford.
On the outbreak of war in August 1914 he joined the l/5th Battalion and served in India and Mesopotamia where he was awarded the Military Cross in 1916. In 1918 he was appointed ADC to Lieutenant- General Sir Harry Brooking.
He joined the 5th Battalion on its re-formation In 1920 and commanded it from 1929 to 1933. He was Honorary Colonel of the Battalion from 1951 to 1956.
In 1949 he was elected a member of the Surrey County Council and was appointed an Alderman from 196? to 1967.
He was admitted a Solicitor in 1920 and was Under Sheriff of Surrey for forty years and President of the Under Sheriffs' Association from 1931 to 1961. He was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for Surrey in 1933.
He died on 7th August 1986 at the age of 96.
