The Torrens Cup

The Torrens Cup

Presented by Sir Henry Torrens, a silver cup, urn shaped, surmounted by a Paschal Lamb. Sir Henry Torrens was Adjutant General of the British Army and Colonel of the Regiment. It was he who in January 1825 restored the Third Colour to the 2nd Foot after it had been laid up in the Royal Hospital, Dublin, since 1750. His wife had very painstakingly restored the Cipher on the Colour with her own hands.

The inscription on the cup reads:-
“Presented to the Officers’ Mess of the Queen’s Royals, by their Colonel, Major General Sir Henry Torrens, in testimony of his sincere regard and of the deep and cordial interest he takes in their welfare and happiness.”

Silver Drum Major’s Staff

Colonel R G Clarke presented two staffs to the Queen's in 1936-1937. One for each of the regular battalions.

They were identical except for the battalion numeral on the shoulder. They each had all the Battle Honours and Distinctions of the Regiment. The photo depicts the staff of the Second Battalion. Both staffs are now on display in the Regimental Museum at Clandon.
