The 2nd Royal Surrey Militia Candelabra

A Victorian hallmarked sterling silver centrepiece on a triform base. Mounted on the base are three applied soldier figures depicting different eras of uniforms complete with a shield bearing the engraved badge of The 2nd Surrey Militia. Hallmarked Birmingham 1874.

There are three inscriptions from the officers who presented the candelabra, each inscription starts with the words:-

“Presented to The Officers’ Mess 3rd Bn The Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment”.

By Major John Davis on promotion 9th December 1882.

Inscription 3 continues:-
By Colonel G G Bartnell on retirement from the command of The 3rd Bn The Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment February 1885.

This was the gift of Lady Chubb, wife of Sir George Herbert Chubb (late Captain) 7th Surrey Rifles in 1897 to 4th Bn The East Surrey Regiment.

Silver Bugles and Drum Major’s Staff

The photo shows fifteen of a set of sixteen bugles which were presented to 1/6th Bn The East Surrey Regiment in 1928 by various towns and individuals in the 1/6th recruiting area. The drum major’s staff was presented to 3rd Bn The Queen’s Royal Surrey Regiment (TA) by the Borough of Guildford. The staff and bugles are used regularly by the Corps of Drums, 3rd Bn The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment.

The Borough of Guildford’s Drum Major’s Staff

A drum major’s staff was presented on behalf of the Borough of Guildford to the 3rd Bn The Queen’s Royal Surrey Regiment (TA) on the occasion of the Presentation of Colours to the Territorial Battalions of the Regiment in 1962.

An identical staff was presented by the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess 1st Bn The Queen’s Royal Surrey Regiment to the Corps of Drums in 1965, Münster, then West Germany. Both are still in use with The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment.
