|Warrant Officer II Denis Harding MVO, 1/6th Battalion, the Queen's Royal Regiment, 2nd and 1st Battalions, the East Surrey Regiment and 1st Battalion, the Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment, remembers the difficulties caused by long absences overseas.|
I always remember this, the first words my eldest daughter, who is now forty eight, said to me "is my Daddy coming home" and she was three. I hadn't seen her since she was three months old. That's the regiments as they used to be, it's not like that today, they go away for six months and expect to come back again but we didn't. Our job was to do what the Regiment told us to do and we did it, and proud to do it to.
