Commanding Officer - The East Surrey Regiment (The Queen's Royal Regiment)
Commanded 2nd Bn The East Surrey Regiment from March 1947 to June 1948.
Lt Col Harry Graham Duncombe, DSO., took command. of 2nd Bn The East Surrey Regiment in Palestine and moved it to Egypt where various guard duties were carried out. During this period the Battalion was being run down in preparation for amalgamation with the 1st Battalion which took place in July 1948 in Greece. Colonel Duncombe was the last commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion (LXX) and had previously commanded 1st, 2nd. 1/5th and 1/6th Bns The Queen's Royal Regiment. He had been awarded the DSO for his leadership of 1 Queen's in Burma. In 1935 he had been awarded a Viceroy's Certificate of Commendation after the Quetta Earthquake and had been Mentioned in Despatches for his service in Palestine in 1940.
He retired from the Army on 20th September 1952.
In 1959 he was appointed Regimental Secretary of The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment and on retirement from that position in 1965 became a Military Knight of Windsor.
He died on 29th November 1980.
