Corporal John McNamara VC
It was thought that a collection of Victoria Cross medals had been destroyed in a fire at the Surrey Infantry Regimental Museum but after some investigation by Jane Evans, curator at Fulwood Barracks it transpired that they had been moved to a bank vault along with other items just a few days before. Among these was the Victoria Cross of Corporal John McNamara which is now on display here in the exhibition room along with his other decorations and memorabilia from the first world war.
