The inscription on the top of the desk reads:-

"This writing table was the property of Admiral Richard Earl Howe KG and was on board the 'Queen Charlotte' on the Glorious 1^st of June 1794.

The clock shown on the top of the desk in the photograph was presented to the Officers' Mess 1^st Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment by Lt Col D Lloyd Owen CB, DSO, OBE, MC, last Commanding Officer of the Battalion."
