Commanding Officer - The East Surrey Regiment

Commanded 1^st Bn The East Surrey Regiment from 21^st June 1923 to August 1923.

Percy Beaumont Stafford, known as "lip B", was born on 8^th July 1879. He was commissioned in The East Surrey Regiment from the Militia on 18^th October 1899 and joined the 2^nd Battalion with whom he served throughout the South African War. He was wounded at Alleman's Nek in June 1900. From November 1911 to April 1918 he was employed with the Egyptian Army. In 1916 he was Mentioned in Despatches. He was awarded the Order of the Nile 4^th Class and made an OBE for his services in the 1914-18 War from January 1921 to February 1923 he commanded the Depot.

0n 21^st June 1923 he was appointed to command the 1^st Battalion but two months later had to relinquish command owing to ill health and was placed on half pay from 21^st December 1923. He retired from the Army on 6^th December 1924.

He died on 19^th June 1951.
