Commanding Officer - The East Surrey Regiment
Commanded 1st Bn The East Surrey Regiment from 21st June 1923 to August 1923.
Percy Beaumont Stafford, known as "lip B", was born on 8th July 1879. He was commissioned in The East Surrey Regiment from the Militia on 18th October 1899 and joined the 2nd Battalion with whom he served throughout the South African War. He was wounded at Alleman's Nek in June 1900. From November 1911 to April 1918 he was employed with the Egyptian Army. In 1916 he was Mentioned in Despatches. He was awarded the Order of the Nile 4th Class and made an OBE for his services in the 1914-18 War from January 1921 to February 1923 he commanded the Depot.
0n 21st June 1923 he was appointed to command the 1st Battalion but two months later had to relinquish command owing to ill health and was placed on half pay from 21st December 1923. He retired from the Army on 6th December 1924.
He died on 19th June 1951.
