Colonel J W P Llewellyn QBE
Commanded 5th Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment from February 1960 to 31st March 1961 when the Battalion was amalgamated to form the 3rd Bn The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment and commanded that Battalion until July 1963.
John William Peters Llewellyn was born on 2nd October 1915. He was commissioned in The South Lancashire Regiment (TA) in 1939 and stayed on after the war as a regular until retiring from the Army on 1st July 1958. He then was employed by an oil company in the South of England and joined 5th Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment in 1959. In February 1960 he was appointed to command the Battalion.
On 1st April 1961 he assumed command of 3rd Bn The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment which was formed by the amalgamation of 565 LAA Regiment RA (formerly 4th Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment) with the 5th and 6th Battalions. On 31st July 1963 having completed his tour of command he became the Training Colonel of the 47th Infantry Brigade (TA) and was made an OBE.
He died on 20th June 1976.
