Lt Col R M Burton
Commanded 1/7th Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment from April 1941 to 24th October 1942 when he was killed in action at Alamein.
Roderick Montague Burton was born on 28th March 1900. He was educated at the RMC Sandhurst and was commissioned in The Queen's Royal Regiment in December 1918. He served with the 2nd Battalion in Waziristan, India, Sudan and the UK.
In November 1936 he was appointed adjutant of the 22nd London Regiment (later re-named 6th (Bermondsey) Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment) and in 1940 served with the l/6th Battalion in France when he was wounded.
In April 1941 he was appointed to command the 1/7th Battalion which he led until killed in action during the battle of Alamein on 24th October 1942.
