Lieutenant General Sir Charles Hastings Doyle KCMG
1868-1870
He was the eldest son of Lieutenant General Sir Charles Williams Doyle, KCB, KC, KCS, GCH, of County Kilkenny. He served in the Crimean War (on the Staff of 3rd Division), before transferring to the West Indies. He next moved to Canada where he commanded the forces in Nova Scotia. He then became Lieutenant Governor of the Provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and general officer commanding all forces in British North America.
Returning to his native Ireland as Assistant Adjutant General and Inspector-General of Militia, he was for two years Colonel of the 70th Regiment. In 1870 he was appointed Colonel of the 87th (The Royal Irish Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot. He died on 19th March 1883.
