General Sir George Paty KCB KH
1854-1868
He had served on the expedition to Copenhagen in 1807, and afterwards in the Peninsular from June 1811 to the end of the war in 1814. He took part in the battles of Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, The Pyrenees and Nivelle.
It was in General Paty’s term of office that the 70th Regiment were involved in the Indian Mutiny, being stationed at Peshawar at the time.
They took part in the disarmament of native Regiments which, by a subterfuge, was effected without bloodshed. General Paty died in 1868.
