Commanded 2/6th Bn The East Surrey Regiment from October 1942 to August 1943.
Denis Campbell Campbell-Miles was born on 1st December 1903 and was educated at Ipswich. He was commissioned in The South Wales Borderers in August 1923 and joined the 1st Battalion. From 1924 to 1929 he served with the 2nd Battalion in India, Aden an d the UK. From May 1929 to January 1937 he was seconded to the Somaliland Camel Corps ( K A R) and was made a MBE in 1934. In 1937 he was adjutant of 2nd Bn The South Wales Borderers and served in Norway in 1940. He attended Staff College and in 1942 was posted to 2/6th Bn The East Surrey Regiment as 2 i/c and then commanded the Battalion from October 1942 to August 1943. In 1944-45 he commanded a Somaliland Battalion in Ceylon and Burma and was wounded in 1945. After other appointments he commanded 1st Bn The South Wales Borderers from 1950 to 1952 and from 1952 to 1954 was Commandant of the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall.
He retired from the Army on 6th March 1955.
