Commanding Officer - The East Surrey Regiment (The Buffs)

Commanded 2/6^th Bn The East Surrey Regiment from July 1944 to January 1945.

Daniel Christopher Coates was born on 9^th July 1900 and was commissioned in The Buffs in July 1919. He was adjutant from August 1928 to 1931 and saw service in Burma between 1930 and 1932. He held the appointment of Staff Captain from 1936 to 1939.

He commanded 9^th Bn The Buffs from 1942 to July 1944 in the UK. He commanded 2/6^th Bn The East Surrey Regiment from July 1944 to January 1945. He retired from the Army on 27^th November 1948. He was awarded The Royal Order of The Dannebrog (Knight 3^rd Class) and King Christian X Liberty Medal.
