H S J Streatfeild was born on In August 1914 he was second-in-command of 1/23rd Battalion and commanded that Battalion from May to August 1915 when he was transferred to command the 2/23rd Battalion.
He was awarded the DSO In April 1918 he was appointed to command the Senior Officers' School at Heliopolis.
When the 23rd London Regiment was reformed in 1920 he was appointed to raise and command it.
