Commanding Officer - The East Surrey Regiment
Commanded 23rd London Regiment from September 1958 to April 1961 when the Battalion was amalgamated with 6th Bn The East Surrey Regiment to form 4th Bn The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment.
Bill Robinson served during the 1939-45 War in The Derbyshire Yeomanry and later on the Staff of 2nd Army in France. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre
In 1948 he joined 42nd Royal Tank Regiment and commanded a squadron.
In 1956 the role of 42nd Royal Tanks was changed to that of an Infantry Battalion and in consequence reverted to the Corps of The East Surrey Regiment and resumed its former name of 23rd London Regiment. Major Robinson became second-in-command and in September 1958 was appointed to command the Battalion.
He retired from the Territorial Army when the Battalion was amalgamated with the 6th Battalion.
In civilian life he was employed by the National City Bank of New York and for a time served with the Bank in the Philippines.
He died in February 1990.
