Colonel B H Hughes-Reckitt TD

Colonel B H Hughes-ReckittCommanded 22nd London Regiment (The Queen's) from July 1931 to July 1935 and 2/6th Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment from May 1939 to February 1940.

Brian Hughes-Reckitt was educated at Shrewsbury School and joined the HAC in 1914. Later that year he was commissioned in The 24th London Regiment (The Queen's) and served with that Battalion in France transferring to the Machine Gun Corps in 1916. A cut on barbed wire caused blood poisoning and heart trouble and he spent the rest of the 1914-18 War in England. After the war he joined The 22nd London Regiment (The Queen's) - later renamed 6th (Bermondsey) Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment and commanded that Battalion from July 1931 to July 1935.

In 1939 he was recalled to command the 2/6th Battalion but owing to ill health his command ended in February 1940.

Later he was one of the team at the Map Room at No 10 Downing Street and accompanied the Prime Minister to the Second Quebec Conference in 1944 and set up the Map Room in the Citadel. It was visited daily by President Roosevelt who complimented him on the arrangements and his explanations.

He died on 23rd August 1970 at the age of 75.
