Lt Col E F Bolton DSO

Commanded 2/6^th Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment from April 1940 to July 1942 and the 70^th (YS) Battalion from June to October 1943.

Edward Frederick Bolton, known as 'Teddy' was born on 27^th August 1897 and was commissioned in The Queen's Royal Regiment in November 1915. From October 1917 to June 1918 he served in Mesopotamia. After the 1914-18 War he served with the 1^st Battalion until August 1924 when he was seconded to the Royal West African Frontier Force until May 1930. He then joined the 2^nd Battalion in the UK and later the 1^st Battalion in India. In 1939 he was Chief Instructor at an OCTO.

He then commanded the 2/6^th Battalion from April 1940 to July 1942 and for his fine leadership of the Battalion in France in 1940 was awarded the DSO. In 1941 he was Mentioned in Despatches.

In July 1942 he was declared medically unfit to take the Battalion abroad again. He then held various staff appointments until June 1943 when he was appointed to command the 70^th (YS) Battalion.

From October 1943 he held staff appointments including GSO I Home Forces in 1944-45.

He retired from the Army on 14^th May 1948.

He died on 3^rd March 1977.
