Lt Col J W M Denton

Commanded 70^th (YS) Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment from March 1942 to June 1943.

John William Mingay Denton was born on 13^th April 1899 and was educated at Tonbridge and the RMC Sandhurst. He was commissioned in The Queen's Royal Regiment in April 1918 and served with the 11^th Battalion in France and Belgium from June to October 1918 when he was severely wounded. From 1919 to 1939 he served with the 1^st Battalion except for the period April 1928 to June 1929 in North China and when he was adjutant of the 4^th Battalion from January 1934 to January 1938.

In September 1939 he was posted to a staff appointment in Malaya but in November suffered severe injuries in a motor accident and lost the sight of one eye.

He returned to duty in 1942 and commanded the 70^th (YS) Battalion from March 1942 to June 1943 when he was posted to the War Office. In June 1944 he went to France for service on the Lines of Communication and became Town Major of Lille until the end of the War. From 1946 until he retired on 8^th February 1949 he commanded the Depot Cadre Party. He then was employed as Administrative Officer at the Depot until June 1950.

He died on 23^rd January 1955.
