Commanded 11^th (HD) Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment from August 1941 until invalided out.
Mitchell Wyndham Hacket Pain, known as 'Mich', was born on 27^th January 1890 and was educated at Harrow School. He was commissioned in The Queen's Royal Regiment in April 1910 and posted to the 1^st Battalion. In 1911 he was included in the Battalion's Party for the Coronation Parade of H M King George V.

In August 1914 he went to France with the Battalion and was wounded on 26^th August 1914. After rejoining the Battalion he was transferred to The Machine Corps with whom he served on the Western Front and in Mesopotamia between 1916 and 1921. He was Mentioned in Despatches in March 1918.

After the War he was on the staff of the Machine Gun School at Seaford before rejoining the 1^st Battalion in Ireland. He then held various staff appointments and after commanding the Depot at Guildford was appointed 2 i/c of the 2^nd Battalion.

He commanded that Battalion temporarily from March 1931 to early 1932. He retired from the Army on 1^st November 1933. Later he was recalled and commanded the 11^th (HD) Battalion from August 1941 until invalided out.

He died on 23^rd July 1971.
