Lieutenant Colonel N A Willis OBE
Commanded 1/6th Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment in December 1941.
Nigel Addington Willis was born on 26th June 1897 and was educated at St Paul's School and the RMC Sandhurst. He was commissioned in The Queen's Royal Regiment in April 1916. He joined the 2nd Battalion in France and was wounded at Delville Wood losing his right arm.
From the end of the 1914-18 War, apart from the period 1928-33 when he was adjutant of the 4th Battalion, he served abroad with either the 1st or the 2nd Battalion in India, Sudan and China.
When World War II started he was 42 years old and except for a brief period in December 1941 when he commanded the 1/6th Battalion he served on the Staff until his retirement in 1947.
His last appointment was as Commandant of a POW Camp. He was made an OBE in the New Year's Honours 1947.
He died on 22nd March 1977.
