Quilted Shako Headdress
Case 2
2nd Foot (Queen’s) Officer’s quilted shako 1861-1869. The body and crown of lightly quilted dark blue cloth, the peak of black patent leather. To the front, a gilt shako plate, the centre mounted with a silvered Pascal Lamb above a gilt “2”. To the rear a blackened lion’s mask sits upon two gilt lace bands denoting Field Rank. Ornamental patent leather strap around the lower edge of the body with buckle to reverse. The crown has a gilt holder, which would support a scarlet and white ball tuft.
