Commanded the 70^th (Young Soldiers) Bn The East Surrey Regiment from June, 1941 to April, 1942.

Thomas Alexander Martin was born on 6^th September 1898 and was commissioned in The Essex Regiment in December 1917. Apart from regimental service he was an Army Military Liaison Officer in Turkey from October 1922 to March 1923 and from March 1930 to January 1933 was an adjutant with the Auxiliary Force India.

From December 1935 to September 1936 he served as GSO 3 in Malta and was a Staff Captain Southern Command from February 1937 to February 1939 and DAA & QMC3 from February 1939 to December 1939.

He commanded 70^th (Young Soldiers) Bn The East Surrey Regiment from June 1941 to April 1942.
