Colonel H P Combe OBE
Commanded 13th (HD) Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment from November 1943 to July 1944.
Harold Percy Combe, known as 'Babe' was born on 20th January 1899 and was commissioned in The Queen's Royal Regiment in April 1918. He served in France and Belgium with the 8th Battalion from June to November 1918 when he was wounded. He served in India and Sudan with the 2nd Battalion from 1919 to 1929 and took part in operations in Waziristan. From October 1929 to September 1935 he was seconded to the Royal West African Frontier Force.
He then rejoined the 2nd Battalion and served in Palestine. In 1940 he was appointed to command an African Battalion. F
rom November 1943 to July 1944 he commanded the 13th (HD) Battalion. He again served in Africa and retired from the Army on 18th November 1949 and afterwards was employed as an Administrative Officer for three years.
He was made an OBE in 1950.
He died on 7th October 1985.
