Lieutenant Colonel J B P PhillipsCommanded 2nd Bn The Queen's Royal 1 Regiment from April 1942 to October 1943.

John Baron Percy Phillips was born on 26th January 1899 and was educated at St Edward's School. Oxford and the RMC Sandhurst. He was commissioned in The Queen's Royal Regiment in September 1917 and in 1918 was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps and served with it and its successor, the Royal Air Force until the end of the 1914-18 War as a pilot officer.

He then served with 1st Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment in Ireland and England and this was followed by a tour with the Royal West African Frontier Force in Nigeria from June 1926 to February 1932. From 1933 to 1937 he was adjutant of the 5th Battalion. He then rejoined the 1st Battalion in India. In April 1942 he was appointed to command the 2nd Battalion in Ceylon and later in India.

At the end of 1943 he was repatriated to UK where he became deputy president of a War Office Selection Board.

He had been a keen sportsman and had on several occasions played for the Harlequins 1st XV as a forward.

He retired from the Army on 25th September 1948.

He died on 17th January 1956.
