Col RFC Oxley-Boyle DSO MC
Commanded 2nd Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment from June 1941 to February 1942.
Rupert Frederick Courtney Oxley-Boyle was born on 4th August 1896 and was commissioned in 8th (Service) Bn The York and Lancaster Regiment in May 1915 and transferred to The Machine Gun Corps in 1916. He served in France and Belgium from 1916 to 1918. He was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in 1916 and was wounded.
In 1918 he was granted a Regular Army Commission in The Queen's Royal Regiment with seniority in 1916. He served in Russia in 1919 and in the campaigns in Waziristan between 1919 and 1924.
From 1926 to 1930 he was adjutant of 24th London Regiment and from 1934 to 1937 adjutant of the 1st Battalion. In 1940 he served with the 2nd Battalion in the Middle East and commanded that Battalion from June 1941 to February 1942 when he was appointed Commandant of the Middle East OCTU.
He was awarded the DSO for his fine leadership of the Battalion. In 1943 and 1944 he was Assistant, to the Commander of 185th Infantry Brigade and from 1944 to 1946 was with the Military Government in Germany and retired from the Army on 8th September 1947.
He died on 16th April 1981.
