Queen Anne authorizes the raising of six Regiments of Marines, including that of Colonel Villiers. Villiers’ Marines raised at Taunton and Bridgewater.

 

Regiment embarks for Spain.

Villiers’ Marines renamed Luttrell’s Marines.

 

A Grenadier’s pouch with hatchet and cartouch.

All companies carried a bayonet although only the grenadiers had a sling to their muskets.
