Norman David Leslie was born on 1st October 1910 in Edinburgh and educated at Rugby and the RMC Sandhurst.
He was commissioned in The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders in August 1930 and served in India, Scotland and Nigeria until 1940.
He had been seconded to the Royal West African Front: Force from October 1936 to September 1938. In 1940, he served in France and returned to the UK via Dunkirk. In 1942 and 1943 he served in North Africa on the Staff and was appointed to command 1/5th Bn The Queen's Royal: Regiment in March 1943 and led the Battalion from Medenine to Tunis when in September 1943 he was appointed GSO I of 51st Highland Division.
In 1944 and 1945 he served in North West Europe and was made an OBE for his service
After the 1939-45 War he served in Gibraltar, UK, North Africa, Germany and Hong Kong as a Battalion Commander and a General Staff Officer.
He retired from the Army at his own request on 5th April 1957.
He was Mentioned in Despatches in January 1944.
