Lt Col H G de Jacobi du Vallon DSO MC RA
Commanded 2nd Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment from December 1944 to September 1946.
Henry Grosvenor de Jacobi du Vallon, known as "Mike", was born on 8th July 1910 and was commissioned in The Royal Artillery in August 1930. In 1940 he was awarded the Military Cross. In 1944 he commanded 60th Regiment RA with "The Chindits" and for his fine leadership of his column in Burma was awarded the DSO.
In the autumn of 1944 many amalgamations were imposed with a result that the 60th Regiment RA joined 2nd Bn The Queen's Royal Regiment in December 1944 in India.
For nearly two years he commanded the Battalion with distinction. He was a fine sportsman and could outrun any member of the Battalion on both the hockey field and the running track.
In September 1946 he returned to The Royal Artillery and retired from the Army on 8th July 1956.
He died on 23rd June 1986.
